Steve is a qualified cycling coach with British Cycling

He has been cycling since he was a boy and been competing in road races and time trials since he was 13. He served for seven years with the Royal Engineers and then worked as a design engineer in Essex, where he joined Essex Roads Cycling Club. Since moving to France in 2005 he has competed in the Etape du Tour, to the point where he is now invited back each year by letter and given a priority starting number. In 2009, he finished in 71st place, which puts him in the top 1% of all the 7396 finishers.

Steve has completed club coaching courses and road and time-trial specific coaching courses with British Cycling. He now coaches cyclists on a one-to-one basis as well as running coaching sessions here (for example on climbing and descending). Steve also takes part in as many local sportives each year as he can. These excellent events are brilliantly organised and can be a real challenge. He also races with top local racing club UV Lourdes, and finished 1st for them in the 2009 Prix du Conseil General road race event in Tarbes and 12th in the 2009 divisional time trial championships. Steve is also a first-aider and keen skiier.

Sarah looks after the top accommodation and home-cooked food

Sarah, Aidan & Amelie at the top of the horquette d'ancizan His wife, Sarah, is a former primary school teacher, so has lots of suggestions for keeping the kids amused and provides baby-sitting if requested. She looks after the house and does the home-cooking, with the help of her mum, Sue. Since moving to France Sarah, too, has caught the cycling bug and enjoys riding the local lanes (as well as the odd col!!) Our son, Aidan, was born here in France in September 2005 and daughter Amélie arrived in February 2008. Also on hand to help is Sarah's dad, John, who looks after the garden, general maintenance and accounts.
