"A really good family holiday", C.M., Essex
cycling
- hire bikes from us or bring your own to experience the whole range of
cycling from Tour de France routes to gentle family excursions. We can
provide guided rides, easy-to-follow maps or simply advice. A British
Cycling-qualified coach can tutor those new to cycling or provide real
challenges for the more experienced cyclist. Our workshop can fix any problems
and mini shop can supply most things you may need. If you are a keen
cyclist, but the rest of the family isn't, then there are plenty of other things
for them to do while you enjoy the cycling.

sight-seeing
- there are numerous fun days out within a comfortable drive of the house.
Visit prehistoric
caves, castles and
abbeys, take a drive into the
mountains or a ride in the cable cars, experience Space City or one of the
many animal
parks, zoos and
aquariums. Towns such as Lourdes,
Pau, Tarbes
and Toulouse have plenty to see. Spain and Andorra are close enough for a
day trip, as are the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
enjoying
the countryside - our own field can provide a lovely walk and picnic
spot. You can always borrow the dogs for a stroll! Keep an eye out for the
local wildlife: eagles, hawks and kites fill the sky by day and at night
you can see bats and
owls. Lizards and deer can be found close by and bears live up in the mountains. We can recommend
walks, cycle-routes or drives to get the best views.
"Spring is a wonderful time for all the flowers and butterflies", D.F., Brentwood.
sports
- golf courses and driving ranges; canoeing and kayaking; climbing and
canyoning;
abseiling; horse-riding; fishing; plus skiing, tobogganing, husky-sled driving or snow-boarding in the winter;
swimming or tennis in the summer: the Pyrenees can provide whatever sporting
experience you want.

food
- The nearby town of Lannemezan has a whole range of restaurants: French, Italian or Spanish tastes; from brilliant value meals
to something a bit special. In the surrounding villages there is also a
child-friendly pizzeria, which also serves typical French food at Betpouy, and
there is a popular lunchtime eatery in Montastruc serving up a daily menu that
attracts the locals. For a special night out, a 30-minute drive to Nestier will
take you to some really fine restaurants with "wow" factor food. Or feel free to use the barbecue to cook up your own feasts.
Set-menu evening
meals (plus a children's menu) are cooked 7 days a week for those who prefer to stay in.
We serve a continental breakfast of croissants, bread, cereals and fruit, while a full English, German or a "high-energy"
breakfast is available on request. Plus, don't forget to sample our chicken's
fresh eggs - poached are best! If you
are out for the day, we can provide packed lunches or advice on where to
stop. Another option is to take our self-catering accommodation and then your room has a private
kitchenette.
at
the house - our spacious home is set in extensive grounds. There is a
large living room for lounging
around in, with a real fire, piano and television with UK channels. The dining room is used for breakfast and for
evening meals (if
requested); the games room has a pool table, Playstation 2,
darts and various board games and activities, whilst the gym has
weights and equipment to work up an appetite. Outside, the garden has a swimming pool, play
equipment for young children, a large lawn for ball games, plenty of trees
to climb or hide behind and you may just see one of the cats, dogs or chickens
(feel free to collect a fresh egg for breakfast!) Our separate field also
has plenty of space for mountain-biking practice, while picnic tables by the river
are just perfect in the summer (you may even see a friendly otter or two).
